Also announced in York Region, York Catholic District School Board received over $800 thousand for a retrofit of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Elementary School in Markham and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir received $13.3 million for a new French Catholic school to serve 400 students in Vaughan.

This is part of a new investment across the province to build 39 brand new schools and undertake 40 major renovations or additions that will include more than 2,700 licensed child care spaces for children aged 0-4, helping more families access safe and affordable child care closer to home.

Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.

“These new schools, renovations and additions are an important investment for communities across Ontario. They will help to build a strong foundation for our children's education. These projects will provide students with great learning environments and will support working families with access to safe, quality licensed child care closer to home.” — Indira Naidoo-Harris, Minister of Education and Minister Responsible for Early Years and Child Care

"Our government’s investment is great news for families in York Region. I am proud that we are making a real difference for students and families now and for future generations.” — Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak Ridges- Markham

“On behalf of the trustees of York Region District School Board, I am pleased with the investment in the future of students and families in York Region. A new school will help us better meet the needs of our growing community in the Markham Area.” —Corrie McBain, Chair of York Region District School Board

“The Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir is very grateful to the Ministry of Education of Ontario (MOE) for the support it has shown to the French-speaking Catholic families in these three regions.
