Ontario is supporting families in York Region with 2 new schools, renovations and more licensed child care spaces that will provide a modern learning environment for students.
Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak Ridges-Markham was at Bill Hogarth Secondary in Markham to announce that the province is investing in a public elementary school to be built in Cornell that will accommodate over 600 students and includes 2 new child care rooms with 39 new licensed child care spaces. YRDSB is also receiving funding for another school, with the same capacity, in Vaughan. The province is investing over $14 million in each of these schools.
Also announced in York Region, York Catholic District School Board received over $800 thousand for a retrofit of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Elementary School in Markham and Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir received $13.3 million for a new French Catholic school to serve 400 students in Vaughan.
This is part of a new investment across the province to build 39 brand new schools and undertake 40 major renovations or additions that will include more than 2,700 licensed child care spaces for children aged 0-4, helping more families access safe and affordable child care closer to home.
Ontario's plan to create fairness and opportunity during this period of rapid economic change includes a higher minimum wage and better working conditions, free tuition for hundreds of thousands of students, easier access to affordable child care, and free prescription drugs for everyone under 25 through the biggest expansion of medicare in a generation.
