Ontario is providing $38,625,500 to York Region, $994,800 to Whitchurch-Stouffville and $481,900 to King Township to help focus on local priorities, including investments in infrastructure and economic development that support a stronger economy.
Through the combined benefit of the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund (OMPF) and provincial uploads, municipalities will be provided with more than $1.8 billion this year. The OMPF will total $583 million in 2012, combined with the $1.2 billion in provincial uploads, this is almost three times the level of funding provided under the previous program.
The OMPF assists municipalities with their social program costs, supports areas with limited property assessment, addresses challenges faced by rural and northern communities, and responds to policing costs in rural communities. Provincial uploading of programs like Ontario Works, Ontario Drug Benefits (ODB) and Ontario Disability Support Program (ODSP) ensure that more property tax dollars are available for important municipal priorities, including investments in infrastructure and economic development.
“It is important that the Provincial Government continues to work with the Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund and our municipalities to ensure our communities have the resources they need.”
-Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP Oak Ridges-Markham
“Nearing 1.1 million residents, The Regional Municipality of York has grown by 31,400 residents per year on average over the past 10 years, representing an annually growth rate of 3.5 per cent per year. We appreciate this much-needed increase in support of the provincial programs we deliver to our continuously-growing population.”
-Bill Fisch, Chairman and CEO, The Regional Municipality of York
“The Ontario Municipal Partnership Fund's purpose has always been to ensure municipalities have the resources they need to provide quality services. This - together with our initiative to upload social services - demonstrates our continued commitment to strong municipal services for all across Ontario.”
- Greg Sorbara, MPP
"Municipalities like Richmond Hill across the province continue to benefit from our government's unparalleled support for building strong communities. The continued uploading of costs, even in lean times, empowers communities to focus their future growth on local priorities."
-Reza Moridi, MPP
“I am proud that our government is honouring its commitment to our municipal partners, here in York Region and across Ontario. This funding is a key component of our support, helping to provide stability for municipal planning and priorities that will contribute to strong and vibrant communities, now and for the future.”
- Michael Chan, M.P.P., Markham-Unionville
“Despite serious economic challenges, our government is continuing to deliver on our upload commitment. These uploads have ensured that more property tax dollars are available for important municipal priorities, including investments in infrastructure and economic development.”
“We have enjoyed a great partnership with cities and towns across the province and the support we provide helps them control property tax rates and deliver vital public services that families rely on.”
York Region will receive $38,625,500 in support in 2012, an increase of $7,818,500 compared to 2011.
