Ontario is helping more parents get connected with their school community in Oak Ridges-Markham.
Parents play a vital role in Ontario’s publicly funded education system. That’s why the government is providing Parents Reaching Out grants to encourage more parents to get engaged at the local, regional and provincial levels. These grants help support parents to identify and address barriers to engagement in their own community and allow them to find local solutions that will help more parents get involved.
Applications for Parents Reaching Out grants are now available for the 2012-13 school year.
Helping parents get more involved in their children’s education is part of the McGuinty Government’s plan to support student success and secure a brighter future for all Ontarians while protecting the gains made in education since 2003.
“Parents play a very important role in our education system, Parent Reaching Out grants will support and encourage parents to be active partners in education, allowing them to find solutions on a local level.”
—Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP Oak Ridges-Markham
“Engaged parents play a crucial role in student achievement and well-being. With guidance and support, students are typically more motivated, earn higher grades and have better behaviour and social skills. That’s why our government is pleased to support parents in becoming more engaged in their school community.”
—Laurel Broten, Minister of Education
