TORONTO- Dr. Helena Jaczek, MPP for Oak Ridges-Markham, debates her Private Member’s Resolution to establish an advisory committee to investigate all possible options for encouraging and improving organ and tissue donation in Ontario. This committee would also investigate ways of increasing the quality of care for organ or tissue donors.
For every one person registered as an organ and tissue donor, eight lives can be saved. With over 1500 people on Ontario’s Organ and Tissue Transplant waiting list it is important for the provincial government to consider the quality of care for patients while on this list. Many people remain on the waiting list for an organ or tissue transplant and some unfortunately die prior to receiving the surgery.
Here’s what people have to say:
"As director of the Multi Organ Transplant Program at the University Health Network and the University of Toronto Transplantation Institute, I congratulate Dr. Helena Jaczek on this private members resolution which is designed to improve organ and tissue donation in the Province of Ontario. I am highly supportive of the resolution and commit my energy to increasing access for patients requiring transplantation services in the Province of Ontario and Canada.”
